 A youth program for the Georgia Outdoor Network is an important focus of the
organization. Our program is called SEEDS, which stands for Sportsmanship, Ethics, Education, Dedication, and Service. These are more than just words - this is the foundation of what our youth program hopes to accomplish with the future hunters and anglers of Georgia. Youth participation in hunting and fishing has declined at an alarming rate. We must work to encourage more young people to learn the joys and life-enriching experiences offered by outdoor pursuits. The reasons why the Network needs a youth program is the easy part. The more difficult task is determining the best ways to accomplish the goals of the SEEDS program.
- To bedazzle the youngsters of Georgia with quality hunting and fishing opportunities. These are the types of outdoor trips that will produce life-long memories, and hopefully will secure the passion for the outdoors in our SEEDS members.
- To instill in our youth members the importance of sportsmanship and ethics.
- To foster a higher ideal of conservation, so that our SEEDS members learn to improve the wildlife and habitat in this state through hands-on effort.
That final statement - through hands-on effort - is an important one to the Network. We want our youth to learn that excellent wildlife populations and prime habitat for all animals and fish are accomplished through their own
hard work. If the youth members of the Network can grasp this important concept, they will grow into our future outdoor leaders knowing that it is up to them - that they can't depend on someone else to protect, promote and
improve the woods and waters and our hunting and fishing. We encourage anyone with ideas and suggestions that will help make the SEEDS program a success to make them known. Each individual must make an effort - we can't sit back and wait on someone else to come up with ideas and do the work. What follows is just the beginning.
